Three Immigration officers, who were assaulted by over 40 thugs during a raid on a pub in Taman Melaka Raya here on Sept 30, are among the recipients of the Melaka state medals this year.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said one of the officers, Mohd Yusof Hashim, would be conferred with Bintang Khidmat Terpuji (BKT) medal, while the two other officers to be conferred with Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (PJK) medal, in conjunction with the 77th birthday of Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
"We are giving them the medals to boost their spirit and encourage them to continue working and offering their service without their work and service with enthusiasm," he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting at Seri Negeri here Thursday.
He said the trio would receive the medal at the third session of the investiture on Nov 14.
Meanwhile, Idris said the state government had instructed the local authority to ensure that appropriate action be taken against the pub to ensure that such an incident would not recur.
The chief minister, however, dismissed the allegation that the incident involved racial elements.
"It's not true. There is no racial elements involved, it was only a bunch of thugs trying to prevent public officers from discharging their duties," he said.
