KUALA LUMPUR: The Independent Special Committee on Emergency 2021 held a physical and virtual meeting yesterday.

The meeting, chaired by former Chief Justice Tun Ariffin Zakaria was attended by all 19 committee members who have been appointed with the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The meeting was briefed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan on emergency management, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the implementation of the Movement Control Order and Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on the COVID-19 status.

The next meeting is scheduled to be held on Feb 23, the committee said in a statement yesterday.

On Feb 9, the Prime Minister’s Office announced the list of 19 individuals appointed to to the Independent Special Committee on Emergency 2021, chaired by Ariffin, effective immediately.

The committee, set up under Section 2 of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, serves to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the ongoing existence of major emergency in Malaysia and the end of it.

The National Security Council of the Prime Minister’s Department will serve as the secretariat of the committee.
