Indonesia can learn how to reduce boat mishaps from Malaysia

Indonesia can learn about effective maritime enforcement from Malaysia to curb boat mishaps during the festive season.
Indonesian Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister, Rizal Ramli said many things need to be improved so that boats were not overloaded with passengers.
"Malaysia's online ticketing system is also similar to that of Indonesia and the port facilities are also on par. We are only lacking in enforcement," he said after visiting Kukup International Ferry Terminal here, Monday.
Also present were Indonesian Minister of Transportation, Ignasius Jonal and Indonesian Consul General in Johor Baharu, Taufiqur Rijal.
Rizal said they were ready to cooperate with Malaysia to arrest illegal boat operators who bring Indonesians home for Aidilfitri.
From June 26 to July 3, the Immigration Department estimated some 39,200 Indonesian workers in Malaysia had used the ferry service at eight terminals in Johor to return home.
