The government with the cooperation of Bank Negara Malaysia has taken the initiative to help the Disabled Persons have their own insurance coverage which suits their needs.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said, it includes securing the agreement of an insurance company to introduce life insurance plan which can be renewed every year.
"As a result of this cooperation, on June 24th, 2015, Allianz Malaysia Berhad (Allianz) has introduced a product known as Allianz Ability Life, a life insurance plan which is renewable annually.
"The product is specially designed for the disabled with a premium rate as low as RM50 a year for a RM25,000 insurance and RM70 a year for a RM50,000 insurance.
"This insurance is offered to the disabled between 16 and 70 years old," she said in reply to a question from Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris (BN-Jerantut) at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Ahmad Nazlan asked the minister to state the efforts taken to assist Persons With Disabilities to have insurance policies that come with a fair plan and reasonable premium rate.
This is because, he said, the disabled have difficulty in getting insurance policies that suit them at a low premium rate.
At the same time, Rohani said, the ministry was still continuing with discussions and negotiations with insurance companies to ensure that the insurance scheme for people with disabilities are taken care off.
"We give priority to the welfare of the disabled when they are still alive, especially insurance scheme in the form of saving such as endowments, apart from the normal protection offered for deaths and accidents," she explained.
