Selangor Menteri Besar, Mohamed Azmin Ali will only prolong the water shortage crisis faced by the state if he does not seal an agreement between the State and the Federal soon.
Kuala Selangor MP, Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim said the rakyat in Selangor will face the wrath of water shortages just as KLites in the Klang Valley endured last year.
“Water supply in Selangor will face intermittent water supply if no agreement on the water deal is inked. Why can’t the State government learn from past mistakes especially when Selangor folks endured water rationing that affected their lives.
“Now, several areas have been affected by water shortages and the situation would likely escalate to become even chronic until the water agreement is signed,” said Irmohizam when contacted by Astro AWANI on Sunday.
Prior to this, Azmin refuted allegation that the Federal government was attempting to take over the entire 26,000-km water pipe asset including land despite it contradicting with the main agreement on water restructuring service in Selangor.
“If (water) supply is rationed, the rakyat in Selangor will continue to suffer especially during the upcoming fasting month and the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Azmin stressed, the Federal government’s move has been the cause of the cancellation of the water agreement which was signed on Sept 12 before it was agreed that the concerned parties to meet and renegotiate on March 23.
“The people of Selangor wish that Azmin will return to focus on internal issues rather than paying attention of national politics fiasco.
“Prior to this, Azmin had pledged to give emphasis on Selangor sovereignty and focus on the wellbeing of the people … but now is a different story,” he stressed.
