Interview With Gymnast Farah Ann
One of Malaysia’s top professional athletes, Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, has been making waves not only in the world of artistic gymnastics but also on the pages of glossies of late. She’s sassy, smart and super sporty, plus flawlessly beautiful to boot. Here we have her evoking a surreal role that’s part-intergalactic boho and part-punk-inspired donning Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection.
When did you get into gymnastics?
I started gymnastics at the age of 3 and my parents decided to place me in gymnastics as I was a hyper-active child. I needed space to jump around and release all that energy.
Tell us about your journey in gymnastics.
There have been ups and downs throughout my journey but I’ve always learnt something along the way.
What’s life like for a professional gymnast like you, especially as you’re juggling tertiary studies?
It takes a lot of discipline to juggle my professional career and studies which I am proud to be able to manage thus far.
As a gymnast, what keeps you mentally and emotionally strong and motivated? Do you have a mantra you go by?
Being a gymnast or an athlete in general isn’t easy. There is a lot of hard work, dedication and sacrifice throughout in being a professional athlete. My parents and the fans keep me going, and I want to make them and the nation proud of what I achieve. My mantra is “Always believe in yourself” – it has been repeated to me by my parents, my coach and also my teammates which has kept me believing throughout.
