Investment, tourism sectors remain unaffected by Daish threats - Mustapa

Malaysia's investment and tourism sectors remain unaffected by threats from the Daish militant group, said International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

He said investors and tourists continued to come to Malaysia as they had confidence in the country's political and economic stability, born out of the solidarity and tolerance prevalent among the people of various communities and religions.

"We remain popular as a peaceful country and do not want this image to be tarnished by the actions of an extremist group that wants to destroy our nation.

"We are not prepared to allow our country to be destroyed by this group ...our investment and tourism sectors are unaffected as of now and we pray this situation will remain," he told reporters at the Aidilfitri open house at his residence at Darul Falah, Batu 10, here today.

Last Monday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed that a grenade attack at an entertainment outlet in Puchong, Selangor, on June 28 was a Daish terror attack.

A preliminary investigation showed that two Malaysians arrested on July 1 over the incident had got the grenades in a neighbouring country.

Mustapa said the people could not take lightly the issue of security because national development would suffer without security.

"If we do not have order, if our country is in chaos, if we fight one another, we will only weaken our solidarity and economy.

"We do not want our country to be in a situation from which we will have difficulty recovering. We will have to prevent this from happening," he said.
