Islamic education should be life long, suggest Muhyiddin
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin suggested that life long Islamic education be made as the main national policy as an effort to strengthen the faith of the Muslims who face liberalism challenges.
The UMNO deputy president said Muslims should not confine their Islamic studies to schools and universities alone but should continue for life long.
“With the policy, we can set up Islamic studies centres at community level to give a chance for an in-depth and complete study of the religion for the Muslims,” he said in his opening speech at the Wanita, Youth and Puteri Umno general assemblies at the Putra World Trade Centre, Tuesday night.
He said the centre can employ Islamic scholars and experts to teach various fields of Islam as well as offer certification programmes for those who study there.
“I propose that the Federal government and state Islamic religious councils to discuss this and make it a joint effort to make the initiative a success,” he said.
He also welcomed other Islamic bodies to work together to ensure the initiative becomes a success.
Muhyiddin who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister said he hoped that the life-long Islamic learning proposal can be implemented as soon as possible as to provide the Muslims in the country the true Islamic teaching.
Such an initiaive, he said, can also counter the negative influences which can affect and erode the faith of the Muslims.
Muhyiddin in his speech, spoke at length, the challenges faced by Muslims including by those who fight for freedom in the name of human rights.
He said such groups are only out there to form perception that UMNO’s struggles to uphold religion, race and country are not relevant although the party is the true shield for Malays and Islam
