PUTRAJAYA: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will continue recording his statement as part of an investigation into corruption and money laundering linked to him on Monday at 10 am.
A vehicle carrying the Bera MP was seen leaving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here at 2.51 pm after nearly five hours of providing his statement.
When asked whether he would return tomorrow to continue the statement recording process, Ismail Sabri briefly responded: "cuti...cuti (holiday)".
Ismail Sabri is being investigated over corruption and money laundering allegations related to the expenditure and procurement of funds for the promotion and publicity of the 'Keluarga Malaysia' programme during his tenure from August 2021 to November 2022.
The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
Ismail Sabri arrived at the MACC office today at 9:54 am. His presence marked the sixth time he has given a statement in relation to the case.
Last Monday, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said several new investigation files had been opened regarding the probe into Ismail Sabri following fresh intelligence and information, adding that there were still many questions to be addressed to the former prime minister.
On March 3, Azam revealed that Ismail Sabri was a suspect in the corruption and money laundering case after MACC discovered about RM170 million in cash, in various currencies, along with 16 kilogrammes of gold bars in a safe house during a raid.
Meanwhile, an MACC source confirmed that Ismail Sabri will continue giving his statement at 10 am on Monday.
