Isuzu’s D-Max does the impossible

Forget the other fuel economy tests that happened recently, the Isuzu D-Max just shattered all records and expectations! By Jerrica Leong

CAR Malaysia might have underwent the challenge of travelling from KL to Bangkok on one tank of fuel recently but the D-Max’s Dura-Mile Challenge just put our record to shame. Four Isuzu D-Max, a pair of 2.5-litre models and a pair of 3.0-litre models in both automatic and manual transmissions, were flagged off from the Isuzu Ung Nguan Tai dealership in Bangkok to make the journey from the dealership to the Singapore Discovery Centre, that is a total distance of 1809km.

This achievement allows the D-Max to retain its title as most fuel efficient vehicle of its class. This is the first time the second generation Isuzu D-Max achieved this accomplishment beating out the previous record set by the previous generation D-Max that travelled a distance of 1600km from Bangkok to Malacca on one tank of fuel.

The drive was under strict observation by an Automobile Association of Malaysia officer who confirms to all that vehicles used during the Dura-Miles Challenge were according to manufacturer’s specifications.

Isuzu hopes that with this accomplishment, it would break the perception that while four-wheel drive vehicles offer highly practical solutions to active lifestyles they are thirsty vehicles to live with. Driving from Bangkok to Singapore but using less than the full contents of its 76-litre fuel tank definitely proves that the D-Max deserves the Asian Auto Fuel Efficiency Award for pick-up trucks six years in a row.
