It’s all about the weight lost

If you’ve been following our Instagram you would probably know that all of us, except of the Editor of course, were given a class on how to get in and out of a Lotus Elise. The Elise is probably the hardest car to enter and exit and we all know just how little creature comforts there are installed inside the car to make the Elise light enough so they sent it back to the lab and ordered more kilos shed.Introducing the new Elise Cup 250, the 250 is here to replace the Elise Cup 220. Lotus claims it is the ultimate embodiment of the company’s “light is right” mantra on all their vehicles. Weighing in at just 931kg, the Elise Cup 250 has shed 21kg and in the process gained 26bhp from the previous version. Clocking a century sprint time of only 3.9 seconds, the 250 is the fastest road-going Elise Lotus has ever created.
Like all of Lotus’ vehicles that were given a weight lost regime the Elise Cup 250 was sent to the company’s Lightweight Laboratory. As a result the 250 emerged with a range of lightweight features like a Lithium-ion battery which slashes 10kg off the weight, carbon fibre seats that cuts 6kg, and ultra-lightweight wheels that saves a further 1.5kg. An optional Carbon Aero Pack further reduces an extra 10kg from the car bringing the total mass to just 921kg.

The Lotus Dynamic Performance Management also provides Sport mode that would increase throttle response and lower traction slip thresholds to remove understeer recognition.
The numerous aerodynamic body kit installed around the car provides 66kg of downforce at 161kph and an impressive number of 155kg at maximum velocity of 250kph. The additional Carbon Aero pack replaces the standard front splitter, rear wings, rear diffuser and side floor-extensions.

The front tyres are now wider with ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels as well.
The Lotus Elise Cup 250 comes with a new record under its fenders, lapping the company’s Hethel track in 1 minute 34 seconds taking a good four seconds off the Elise Cup 220’s best time. That means the Elise Cup 250 has the fastest recorded lap time for a production Elise!
