A former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Pandikar, 59, took his oath as Dewan Rakyat speaker in April 2008, replacing Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib.
It is business as usual for Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia who began his duty at the Parliament today, chairing the swearing-in ceremony for two new MPs, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Datuk Hasan Arifin.
Dr Wan Azizah won the Permatang Pauh by-election with a 8,841 majority while BN's candidate Hassan won the by-election after securing 23,796 votes.
The Permatang Pauh by-election was called after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim lost his eligibility as MP following his sodomy conviction while the Rompin by-election was held following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash on April 4.
On Saturday, A news portal reported that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a forum in Ipoh had said that Pandikar had met to inform him that he had resigned as Dewan Rakyat speaker.
