After their exit from Formula 1, a Jaguar motorsport team sounds like a distant memory but now, they are announcing their return to sports and it’s not just any old and prestigious racing series, it is the FIA Formula E Championship.
Joining the FIA Formula E Championship will offer Jaguar Land Rover to further develop the future of EV powertrain including motor and battery technology. As it is, JLR already employs over 8000 engineers and is the UK’s largest investor in research and development across any business sector. Jaguar foresees the Formula E team to be able to draw upon this industry leading resource with JLR engineers working closely with the race operations team.
In this venture into motorsport, Jaguar will be teaming up with Williams Advanced Engineering as their Technical Partner. Williams will draw on their extensive motorsport knowledge combined with high-performance EV Systems experience and success to help bring the team to victory in the sport. This isn’t the first time the partners have worked together, Williams and JLR has already teamed up for the development of the Jaguar C-X75 plug-in hybrid concept car.
The Jaguar Formula E team has already been approved by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and will start racing from the autumn of 2016, the start of the third FIA Formula E Championship.
