Jail for man who stole from unconscious despatch rider

A mechanic who took advantage of an unconscious despatch rider by stealing his wallet was sentenced to seven days' jail by the Magistrate's Court here today.
Magistrate Nur Azura Murah handed down the sentence on Pong Yoke Kong, 44, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Pong was charged with stealing the wallet, which contained personal documents and a Hong Leong Bank ATM card, belonging to Joseph Winfred, 58, at Jalan Bandar Tun HS Lee, Dang Wangi here at 8.50 am yesterday.
According to the facts of the case, Winfred was riding a motorcycle when he fell and was unconscious for some time.
A shooting crew and Pong went to his aid, and when Winfred regained consciousness the crew left, leaving Pong still with the victim.
The shooting crew then saw Pong took a wallet from Winfred's trouser pocket and went after him. Pong was then handed over to the police.
