Jake Gyllenhaal Is Single
Ryan Gosling may be off the market (he is also a baby daddy), but fellow heartthrob Jake Gyllenhaal is single and dateable if you just get close with his mother. "My mother thinks that arranged marriages might actually be able to work in a good way," he tells Ellen DeGeneres. "She thinks that if she picked for me, I'd do a lot better."
Jake's mom gets to meet and screen all of his dates, in fact. "One thing I always do is I always bring my dates to my mother's house for the first date. I think that's a good move." Is he joking? Who knows? But Mrs. Gyllenhaal, if you want to ask us over for dinner, we make a mean guacamole! We’ll even bring the corn chips.
The 34-year-old didn't mention anything about reports that he and Southpaw co-star Rachel McAdams, 36, have been spending time together since the end of filming last year.
As the conversation moved away from his dating life and concentrated on his upcoming film, Southpaw, Ellen pointed out the physicality of Gyllenhaal's role and asked him about his training regimen.
The actor responded, “I trained like five months. Four months really consistently, like two times a day. Because I didn't know anything, I knew about boxing but had never really trained for real like that...So I kind of made eight months into four months and really learned all the skills of boxing.”
The film, which is set to premiere on July 24th, is about a light heavyweight champion boxer named Billy Hope whose fighting strategy is the more he gets hit, the harder he fights. Through the misfortune of losing his wife (McAdams), he learns how to take care of himself and their daughter by working hard to make a comeback.
Unfamiliar to many fans, Gyllenhaal has a musical past of his own, which he exposed to DeGeneres during their interview. "I was in a really, really bad band when I was in high school," he said. "The name of the band was called Whole Shot...That's one good-looking band right there!”
