McDonald's Malaysia's policy restricting customers from bringing in birthday cakes which are not halal-certified into its premises has gained Jakim's approval.
Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general, Tan Sri Othman Mustapha said the policy showed the fast-food company's strong commitment to serving only halal food in accordance with the Halal Assurance Management System (HAS).
"Generally, this is not something extraordinary as most food chains have the 'No Outside Food Allowed' policy which is well-accepted by customers," he said in a statement, here, Wednesday.
It was reported that McDonald's Malaysia had issued a notice restricting customers from bringing birthday cakes which are not halal-certified into its premises to maintain its halal certification.
The notice which went viral over the social media received mixed reactions from the public. - Bernama
