Jeff Ooi apologises

Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun today apologised for calling several officers of the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) on Nov 16 'kucing kurap' (mangy cats).

He made the apology at the Penang DAP Annual Convention here after being called to do so by DAP national chairman Karpal Singh when delivering his speech at the convention.

Moments after Karpal Singh finished speaking, Ooi suddenly stood up and said he sincerely apologised for hurting the feelings of several parties.

"I will follow whatever Karpal Singh says , the Lead Tiger says and the Little Tiger will follow," he said. Ooi later shook hands with Karpal Singh which was met with applause from the 659 delegates present.

On Nov 24, Ooi had admitted to labelling several MPPP officers as 'kucing kurap' on Nov 16 on the premise that they did not bring the latest statistics on the status of hawkers in Jelutong apart from the absence of senior officers who should be present at the visit.

In his speech, Karpal Singh had urged Ooi to apologise for labelling someone 'kucing kurap' saying it was an insult.

"Kucing kurap is an insult, its means...a useless person, we must respect all and no one should be looked down," he said.
