“I feel awful for not joining them. My dad was really excited when he invited me along. Now, all my family members are gone.”
Wan Muhammad Hazim Wan Mohd Fauzi, 19, a family member to the six victims who perished in the crash at KM25 Jalan Bahau-Keratong, near the Risda Palong estate, Jempol, yesterday afternoon.
Wan Muhammad Hazim was met at the Jempol Hospital last night to identify the remains of his parents and four siblings.
He told reporters that his family had left for Kuantan at approximately 10am to send his second sister who was studying at a vocational college there.
“I rarely join my family on holidays as I have a busy schedule working on my online business,” he said.
However, on that fateful day, his father happened to wake him up at 8am and persuaded him to go.
Wan Muhammad Hazim said he was only informed of the accident by the police who went to his house in Putrajaya at around 6pm and was told to contact the Jempol district police headquarters immediately.
At that time, Wan Muhammad Hazim said that he only got to know of his father’s passing.
“The police only mentioned that my father was involved in an accident but nothing about the fate of the rest of my family members. I never expected this incident to happen,” he said.
Six of the deceased were his father Wan Mohd Fauzi Wan Ibrahim, 51; his mother Masnoraida M Yusoff, 45; Wan Muhammad Muhaimin, 22; Wan Nor Athirah, 18; Wan Mohd Amar Haziq, 13; and Wan Nor Alisya, 7.
He said the remains of his family members are expected to be brought back to their kampung in Melor, Kuantan for burial after a post-mortem today.
In the incident at about 2pm yesterday, the Proton Exora carrying the family collided head-on with a trailer before it was crushed by it and engulfed in flame at KM25 Jalan Bahau-Keratong, near the Risda Palong Estate.
The four-vehicle accident also claimed the lives of husband and wife Osman Mohamed Taip, 31, and Rosniza Othman, 32, while their three-year-old son was severely injured.
The trailer driver escaped with no injury.
