JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor state government is waiting for approval from the federal government to open two private COVID-19 Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centres (PKRC) to place patients who are foreign nationals.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad said the two PKRC which were expected to begin their operations would be located in a hotel in Iskandar Puteri and a workers’ hostel in Kota Tinggi.
He said the foreign nationals to be housed at the PKRC comprised workers and illegal immigrants, with each PKRC able to accommodate 250 patients.
“We are still waiting for the approval, especially from the National Security Council (MKN) before these PKRC can operate.
“The cost for staying at the PKRC will be borne by the employers or patients themselves. If they are illegals, they will be placed at the PKRC if the detention centres are full,” he told reporters after visiting the PKRC at the Pasir Gudang City Council’s Indoor Stadium which now has 277 patients.
Also present were Johor State Health Department director, Datuk Dr Aman Rabu and Pasir Gudang mayor, Asman Shah Abdul Rahman.
Asked on the vaccine, Hasni said so far, about 18,000 of the Health Ministry’s (MOH) frontliners in Johor were expected to receive the vaccine in the first phase of the immunisation programme.
“For the first phase, we will also include frontliners who are not from MOH, but we are still in the process of finalising the list of recipients,” he said, adding that the list of vaccination centres had also not been finalised yet.
