Johor considers using incinerator to overcome garbage problem
He said there were two foreign companies that had stated their interests to introduce the method in this state.
The Johor state government will discuss with the Solid Waste Management Department to adopt the ''Waste to Wealth'' incinerator method at the garbage disposal sites in the state.
The Chairman of the state Housing and Local Government Committee Datuk Md Jais Sarday said the method was expected to be able to tackle the issue of the shortage of solid waste disposal sites that was plaguing Johor currently.
He said there were two foreign companies that had stated their interests to introduce the method in this state.
"One of the companies is based in China and it could produce electricity through the solid waste. The electricity supplied could then be sold to Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
"The other was a German company which had the capability to turn the solid waste into fuel and the company already had a project in Sabah," he said at a media conference here.
He was commenting on the long-term plan of the state government in tackling the issue on waste disposal raised by Lau Chin Hoon (BN-Pemanis) at the 13th State Assembly sitting today.
