JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad today said the state government was still monitoring the situation and need for having a state election, and that no announcement had been made so far.
Hasni, who is also the Johor Umno Liaison Committee chairman, said the government's slim one-seat majority currently held in the state assembly was something he needed to look into and assess.
"If there are parties who are speculating about the state polls, on whether there has already been a date set, as far as I remember, as the Menteri Besar, I have never announced any decision other than to look at such a possibility as there is only a one-seat majority in Johor," he told reporters during a press conference after the Johor Entrepreneurship Awards Ceremony, here today.
He was asked to comment on rumours that the state polls would be held soon.
The Benut assemblyman said that the question of support from coalition partners in the state also had not arisen.
The current Johor government only holds a one-seat majority in the state assembly following the death of Kempas assemblyman Datuk Osman Sapian on Dec 21.
The state government has 28 seats led by Barisan Nasional with 16 seats, Bersatu (11), and PAS (one), while Pakatan Harapan has 27 seats.
