The Johor government is holding a special meeting to discuss the 'fate' of the people in the state who commute to Singapore to work following the nationwide movement control order to be enforced in Malaysia beginning tomorrow to curb the spread of COVID-19.
State Investment, Entrepreneur Development, Cooperative and Human Resources Committee chairman Mohd Izhar Ahmad said the meeting, to be held today or tomorrow, would involve the relevant agencies.
“We will also liaise with the federal government on the matter and any decision made will be announced by Menteri Besar Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad, who will also announce measures to curb the spread of the disease in Johor,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
It is understood that there are about 400,000 people in Johor who commute daily to work in Singapore.
Meanwhile, Johor Immigration director Baharudin Tahir, when contacted by Bernama, said the movement control order would also apply to the people in Johor who commute daily to work in Singapore.
“The Malaysian Immigration Department will detail out (the order) today. Once done, we will issue a directive or circular,” he added.
However, for any inquiry, the public can call hotline number 03-88882010 from noon today.
