MOHD MOKHTAR: More than 300,000 traffic summonses were issued to foreigners in the 2000-2013 period.
Johor police collected RM99,450 in arrears of traffic fines from foreigners in an operation launched early morning yesterday until late last night.
State police chief, Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said more than 300,000 traffic summonses were issued to foreigners in the 2000-2013 period.
"For those having doubts (about receiving any summonses), we have opened a counter for reference, or they can check by phoning in," he told reporters after attending the state police contingent's monthly assembly and programme with the community, here, today.
The operation to collect the unpaid fines on traffic summonses was conducted in three locations, Gelang Patah R&R area, Pandan R&R and KM2 Johor Baharu-Kota Tinggi road.
Starting yesterday, the operation is on until Jan 2. Mohd Mokhtar has also instructed Johor police to intensify patrolling, especially in the flood-hit areas.
"Investigations are to be carried out immediately into crime cases in the affected areas to bring the criminals to justice," he said, adding that so far, there had been no such reported cases during the floods in these areas.
