KLUANG: MIC will do its best to win the four state seats it is contesting in the Johor polls to help Barisan Nasional (BN) form a stable state government.
Johor MIC chairman R. Vidyananthan said it was crucial for the party to retain the Tenggaroh and Kahang seats that it won in the 14th General Election (GE14) and win the Bukit Batu and Kemelah seats in the polls this Saturday.
"MIC has a very important role as a BN component party. When we are given the opportunity to contest four seats, we have no other choice but to win them and help BN form the state government," he said in an exclusive interview with Bernama.
Vidyanathan, who is also BN candidate for the Kahang seat, said the 76-year-old party's preparations for the Johor polls had started earlier and as such, he was confident that MIC is capable of wooing voters in the four constituencies as BN candidates also represented all races.
He added that the victory of MIC candidates would give a boost to the party to assist and develop the Indian community so that they will not be left behind.
The Kahang state seat will see a four-cornered fight between Vidyananthan, Daud Yusof of Perikatan Nasional (PN), Rohani Banu Abd Rahman Krishnan of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Rosdi Amir of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang).
MIC Youth chief K.Raven Kumar, who is defending the Tenggaroh seat, believes that MIC has to secure victory to ensure political stability and a better future for Johor.
He also described the implementation of Undi18 as an 'honour' for the youth to determine the future of the country.
Raven will face Roslan Nikmat (PN), Zulinah A Johari (PH) and Mohd Firdaus Abd Rahman (Pejuang) in the Johor polls.
Meanwhile, with her 33 years of experience in the MIC, BN candidate for Kemelah N.Saraswati is confident that she will be able to win the support of voters in the constituency regardless of religion and race.
Saraswati is up against Normala Sudirman (PN), Dr Sulaiman Mohd Noh (PKR) and Noriza Sahardin (Pejuang) for the Kemelah seat.
MIC is also counting on S.Suppayah to come out tops in the four-cornered fight in Bukit Batu against Lee Ming Wen of Parti Warisan (Warisan), Tan Heng Choon (PN) and Arthur Chiong Sen Sern (PKR).
