Johor, through a government-linked company (GLC) Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ), is raising RM23 million to buy more than 14 hectares of land in Senibong from Tebrau Teguh Berhad.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the land would be purchased to fulfill the promise made by the state government under the then menteri besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman to issue land titles to residents in Kampung Senibong.
He said Tebrau Teguh Berhad was aware of the promise made by the government and also on the land applications submitted by the residents when the company bought the land from KPRJ.
As such, he hoped Tebrau Teguh Berhad would not make any transactions on the land, including at Kampung Rumah 10, Kampung Plentong, Kampung Plentong Baru and Kampung Sri Bahagia.
The state government will give priority to settle the land applications by residents in the affected villages, to be done in stages, he told reporters after opening the Koperasi Warisan Kampung Senibong Johor Bahru Berhad general meeting here today.
In another development, Mohamed Khaled said the efforts would be made by the state government to enable cooperative to partake in economic activities in the state.
