Johor has been able to reduce its crime rate for five consecutive years since 2008, recording a drop of 9,519 cases, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today.

He said for the period between January and April this year, the crime rate in the state recorded a drop of 10.32 percent or 594 cases.

"Although the crime index does not reflex the actual crime trend, the huge drop is proof of the commitment by the Johor police in reducing the crime index rate," he said in his speech at the opening of the Batu Pahat District Police headquarters here.

Khalid said based on the Special Ops Cantas report for Johor, a total of 835,754 people were rounded-up for inspection and 16,399 of them were detained between Aug 17, 2013 and April 29 this year.

On the crime rate in Batu Pahat, he said it recorded a drop of 19.10 per cent or 89 cases between January and April this year from the corresponding period last year.

The police headquarters, built at a cost of RM61 million, was opened by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
