Johor religious bodies, agencies urged to draw up Zakat blueprint

The Johor Islamic Religious Council and zakat -related bodies have been urged to draw up a Johor zakat blueprint in an effort to develop the potential of zakat (tithe) for the future and prosperity of Johor.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said it was time for zakat to become an important element in Johor's treasury and its people.
"It's time we explain our strategy to make zakat as an element in our community and as an instrument to eradicate poverty.
"Also, as a channel that would allow the inclusive growth and development of the economy," said Mohamed Khaled in his speech at the state government's 'Tadarus and Khatam Al-Quran' programme , here, today.
He said the blueprint would give a modern dimension to zakat , in Johor's modern economic system.
