A member of the Johor Royal family was killed in an accident while her daughter sustained minor injuries when the car they were in skidded and crashed at the Inner Ring Road exit near the Danga City Mall here today.
Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the woman, identified as Tunku Amal Jakiah Tunku Mohd Archibald, 58, who is a second cousin to the Sultan of Johor, died at the scene from severe body injuries.
"The accident occurred about 9.45am on the road leading to Skudai and Pantai Lido.
"It is learnt that the driver, namely the deceased''s 22-year-old daughter was trying to avoid another vehicle before she lost control of the car and crashed into the road divider," he said in a statement here today.
Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said the body of Tunku Amal Jakiah was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for post mortem while her daughter, a businesswoman, was being treated at the same hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
