Jokowi wants quick response to SAR mission

All quarters involved in the Search and Rescue (SAR) mission of the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 enroute from Subaya to Singapore on Sunday, are urged to respond as quick as possible.

This was stated by Indonesian President, Joko Widodo or Jokowi during a press conference held in Jakarta on the second day of the SAR mission.

"I now order all the manpower from the ministries, Basarnas (National SAR Body) to move supported by TNI (Indonesian Nasional Army) and Polri (Indonesian National Police) and the public as a whole.

"I also order the President’s Representative (Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kalla) to lead the coordination of the search," said Jokowi.

He also urged for support to be given to the families of the passengers and crew on-board the flight.

"I have also ordered for NTSC (National Transportation Safety Committee) to work fast in order for the cause of the disappearance to be known.

"It (should be done) until an improvement to the flight safety could be done effectively," said Jokowi.

During the press conference, Jokowi had also mentioned about the cooperation given by neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and South Korea.

The Indonesian president had also asked for all flights to be re-examined as a prevention and improvement measure according to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
