A juvenile who was caught on camera while committing a series of armed robberies last September was sentenced to nine years' jail and six strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court here today.
The footage of the brazen act recorded by closed circuit television cameras had somehow gone viral on social media and hence, led to his arrest.
Judge Manira Mohd Nor handed down the sentence after the 17-year-old boy changed his plea to guilty to three counts of armed robbery at a petrol station in Kelana Jaya.
The juvenile, together with his 20-year-old friend, R.Pirabagaran, had initially pleaded not guilty to the three charges.
Pirabagaran, however, maintained his innocence and the court fixed Dec 29 for remention.
They were jointly charged with robbing Mohamad Rasul Mohd Zukri, 26, using a machete and seized his identity card, a Touch 'n Go card and a Honda Civic car.
They were also charged with using the machete and robbing Ain Nina Marji, 23, of her identity card, customs authority card, two bank cards, a mobile phone and RM200 in cash.
On the third count, both of them were charged with similar offence against Prescella Wada, 23, and took her identity card, three bank cards and cash of RM500.
All the robberies were committed at the same time and place, which is at 3.45 am at the Petronas petrol station in Jalan SS4B/10, Kelana Jaya, on Sept 23.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Shafiq Hasim prosecuted while lawyer Muhamad Asri Abdul Hamid, represented the teen.
