Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de-facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will face three police investigations for campaigning early before nomination day for the Kajang by-election, reported Berita Harian.
It is reported that the police had opened three investigation files against Anwar and that the matter is currently being investigated under the 2012 Peaceful Assembly Act for failing to provide any written statement 10 days before campaigning.
Selangor Deputy Chief of Police, Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar was reported to have confirmed that the investigation is being done under Section 9 (5) of the Act.
Earlier, Election Commission Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof had reminded Anwar not to hold early campaign as action can be taken against him.
Anwar however stressed that the allegation was baseless.
Berita Harian also reported that Abdul Aziz had said that political parties should abide by the law set during campaign period to avoid provocations.
“What I say is contained in the law and all parties contesting should abide by it, no one is without exception.
“I ask for the political parties to obtain police permit according to the 2012 Peaceful Act is they would like to hold any assembly or campaign,” said Aziz.
