Police detained four suspects believed to be involved in the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy at Sungai Chua, Kajang early Friday morning.
Police have arrested four suspects involved in the kidnapping of a five-year-old boy in front of a kindergarten at Sungai Chua, Kajang on Friday.
One of the suspects included the taxi driver who brought home the five-year-old boy, Li Zhi Yang.
Selangor Chief of Police, Commissioner Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said that a ransom of almost RM300,000 was also seized.
He added that one of the suspects was an Indonesian citizen.
“A team has been established to investigate this case. The first arrest which involved two suspects was made at around 10.10 last night in front of a shopping complex in Kajang.
“Both suspects were in a car and the police also seized a ransom amount worth almost RM300,000 found under the car seat.
“The second arrest was made at 12.15am at Kajang Raya involving a 45-year-old local man. Police also seized a ransom amount worth RM1,050 from the suspect’s bag.
“Police also seized RM60,500 cash from a motorcycle which was parked outside the man’s house,” said Abdul Samah in a press conference held here today.
He added that a total of RM200,000 in cash was also found at Plaza Indah Sungai Kajang.
Police also seized a purple van used by the victim’s father to fill the ransom money at the Sungai Chua Industrial Centre.
The four suspects were arrested at the Bukit Angkat Industrial Park while a car was also seized.
“A dark Proton Saga BLM with the registration number WUJ 1485 used during the kidnapping was also seized.
“Other items seized include a taxi, ransom worth RM291, 550, a motorcycle and four mobile phones,” said Abdul Samah.
Abdul Samah said that three suspects have admitted to being involved in the case while another pleaded not guilty.
“The suspect was promised to be paid RM10,000 to do his business and as soon as the victim’s father had paid the ransom amount both suspects are expected to receive RM20,000 each,” he said.
He added that the financial issues are believed to be the cause of the incident.
The boy who was kidnapped early Friday morning was found safe eight hours later by a taxi driver who sent him back to home to Kajang.
A 20-second video recording from a closed-circuit television which went viral on the social media showed the boy standing beside his mother while she was talking to a man at about 9am.
Soon after, another man came on the scene and the two men snatched the boy into a car.
The mother was then seen running after the two men but fell, and the car sped off.
