The Education Ministry is identifying suitable locations for the rebuilding of 80 Tamil national-type schools (SJKT) nationwide.

Its deputy minister, Datuk P. Kamalanathan said the redevelopment of the schools would depend on the allocations received.

"The ministry will work with the state governments in identifying suitable sites for the schools involved.

"As for SJKT Ladang Shanghai in Seremban, I am thankful to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan for being ahead in enabling this school to acquire the site for its rebuilding," he told a press conference at the launching of SJKT Ladang Shanghai new building, today.

Also present were Mohamad and MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister.

Meanwhile, Mohamad said the government had allocated RM4.9 million for the construction of a new three-storey school building on a 1.214-hectare site.

Dr Subramaniam, in thanking the government for the RM890 million allocation for the transformation of Tamil schools in the country, said it was a very significant transformation for the Indian community.

"In Negeri Sembilan alone, 11 Tamil schools have been relocated and undergone facelifts," he said.
