Kampung Baru redevelopment will be expedited

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the ministry will find a way to resolve and expedite the redevelopment of Kampung Baru.

"This development will take a long time and Kampung Baru Development Corporation (PKB) is in the process of discussing another 10 projects. I hope the discussion will be carried out faster so that the developments can be implemented as soon as possible, "he said.

According to Tengku Adnan, PKB will also work with the elected representatives to ensure that the development can be realized.

He added the residents of Kampung Baru can also submit proposals to PKB to enhance cooperation in developing the area.

"I hope and appeal to the Malays in Kampung Baru to take the opportunity given by the government to develop this area.

“We need to show the world that the Malays have the ability to develop so that it can be something to be proud of, "he said during a press conference held at Rumah ROHAS in Jalan Abdullah.

The redevelopment is intended to change the landscape and redevelop Kampung Baru while preserving the value of the area with the Malay culture.

Tengku Adnan also added that the government's intention is to help and defend the rights of the owners and heirs of the land there.

"I hope the opposition will not play on the sentiment that the government wants to take over the land and push the Malays aside," he said.

Last year, former Minister of Federal Territories and Urban Well-being, Datuk Raja Nong Chik said the Kampung Baru redevelopment plan was tabled at the Cabinet in November.

Through the act, PKB was established as a facilitator in the interests of owners and heirs of the land.

Earlier, the Chairman of PKB, Datuk Astaman Abdul Aziz Khamis said the idea and planning of the redevelopment of Kampung Baru is being drafted carefully to ensure that none of the landowners was left out in the master plan.

According to Astaman, PKB is expected to meet with the residents of Kampung Baru to explain the development of the master plan from June to September this year.

However, this redevelopment remains a question mark for the residents in the area because the owners want to get a reasonable offer.

Most residents are still worried if their land will be fully developed or abandoned later.

Kampung Baru covers a land area of 90.2 hectares and seven villages which houses 35,000 residents.
