KUALA LUMPUR: The film 'Kampung Latah Kena Kuarantin' by director Azizi Adnan and producer Hazil Izham Ismail has raked in RM1 million via screening on the Astro First platform since Sept 9.

The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), in a statement today, congratulated the success of the film, which was produced by Megapine (M) Sdn Bhd under FINAS' TV/OTT Programme Fund in collaboration with Astro.

"The success of 'Kampung Latah Kena Kuarantin' is a benchmark for films produced under the TV/OTT Programme Fund initiative and serves as a catalyst and added value in the development of local films, especially in production, distribution and exhibition aspects.

"FINAS hopes that this strategic partnership with Astro will continue to open up opportunities for producers to come up with highly creative films and generate revenue through content copyright ownership," the statement read.

'Kampung Latah Kena Kuarantin' is the first local film to highlight the 'latah' syndrome (a culture-specific startle syndrome). It centres on the lives of villagers in Kampung Latah Permai which has become a tourist attraction for having the most population with such syndrome.
