“I was confident Germany would win (against Brazil). I predicted 1-0 but didn’t expect it to be 7-1. I am proud to be a resident of Parit Jerman and hope that Germany will become champions. InsyaAllah,” said another resident, Ahmad Daud.
So, how did Kampung Parit Jerman got its name?
Village head Mohd Asri Ali said the place got the name even before the Japanese occupation in Malaya.
The village, he explained, was used as pineapple and rubber trading route by the Germans before World War II and its influence is still evident today at the village's jetty and rail near Sungai Peradin.
