Karak, Jordan shootout: 20 Malaysians safe

Twenty Malaysian tourists who were at Karak, Jordan when a siege happened at the location on Sunday, are safe, according to Wisma Putra in a statement today.
The 20, visiting a tourist destination known for one of the biggest Crusader castles in the region, were brought to safety by Jordan security forces.
"They were being sheltered and provided assistance by the local authorities.
"Two of them who were injured, received treatment at a nearby hospital and reported to be stable," it said.

Wisma Putra said the Malaysian embassy in Amman had contacted Jordan authorities which confirmed that the Malaysian visitors were all safe.
Malaysians, particularly students of Mu'tah University near Karak city, were also reminded to abide by the security orders issued by the authorities and the Malaysian embassy.
The shootings between some gunmen and security personnel took place in Karak, around 120 kilometres (70 miles) south of the capital Amman, resulting in the death of 10 people, including a Canadian tourist.
No party has claimed responsibility so far.
