Katy Perry SCORES At Super Bowl!
Katy Perry does Super Bowl with a ROAR!
Literally riding in on an animatronic lion and a dress made of fire for her hit, “Roar”. Katy Perry brought out the fireworks and the WOW factor when she introduced dancing sharks and that 3D rendering on the Super Bowl field that appeared to make the turf turn into different shapes and sizes like a chessboard! She also performed a campy and animated rendition of Teenage Dream that wouldn’t look out of place in Sesame Street or Yo Gabba Gabba!
Katy Perry is the world’s most followed Twitter user (64.3 million and counting) and a prevalent, energetic female pop star who sings songs with memorable hooks. She’s someone in the prime of her career and adored by the NFL’s target demographic, which consist of mainly YOUNG people.
Twitter blew up about Perry’s usage of what seemed like a Wii Strap on her microphone. I guess she just wanted to make sure it stayed close by at all times and dropping it wouldn’t be an option. But we say, “Cute touch”. Way to appeal to the nerdy gamers.
Even if you aren’t a fan of Katy Perry’s music, you will appreciate the spectacle and wonder that emanates from Perry. She is a walking, talking, dancing prime example of superstardom – bottled up in a bundle of energy and outlandishness wrapped in candy canes and flames. The Katy Perry performance was top-notch, but the show took a dip when its “special guest” was revealed. Perry had been hyping it all week, “When you hear the first ring of the chord, I think jaws will drop and faces will melt.” The guest didn’t bring quite the reaction for which Perry was hoping for. Perry did a duet of "Get Your Freak On" with Missy Elliott and she breaks out a giant bejewelled 49 sweatshirt.
Missy Elliott guested on a remix on that remix of Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) a few years back, so the rapper’s rhymes flowed nicely over the sleek, stylized, pop beats from music’s biggest hit-makers. But her part of the show was barely impressive and quickly forgettable. Lenny Kravitz was also brought on stage because why not? Lenny Kravitz is everywhere, despite having exactly two songs people can name (but Hunger Games you exclaim!) Yeah, there’s that. Though he seems like a perfectly pleasant, nonchalant rock star, stop trying to make Lenny Kravitz happen. Still, it was kind of entertaining to hear him sing I Kissed A Girl.
Overall, costumes were outrageously Katy Perry. Glimmer, sequins, diamonds, fire and all highly theatrical, which was perfect for the Super Bowl half time show! Doing this show for free was probably the best decision she has ever made.
And we loved every second of it.
