PASIR MAS: The Home Ministry (KDN) will strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) in curbing the spread of false news by irresponsible parties, especially related to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said said the government views the issue seriously as it causes confusion among the people.
He said those found spreading false news could be prosecuted under the emergency ordinance which had provisions for the offence.
He said action would be taken against any parties causing chaos and discomfort among the society by spreading false news, not just relating to COVID-19 but also on other matters.
He said this to reporters after visiting the General Operations Force (GOF) tactical base in Lubok Setol, Rantau Panjang here today to monitor GOF's preparations to conduct security control operations at the Kelantan-Thailand border.
Also present were Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat and GOF South-East Brigade commander SAC Hassan Basri Ahmad Safar.
