KDN to supply JPJ with firearms

The Home Ministry (KDN) will supply 265 firearms to Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officers soon.
JPJ deputy director-general Datuk Arifin Che Mat said the firearms are to equip officers so that they can defend themselves when threatened while on duty.
"The firearms are Beretta 92 FS Compact L pistols. Ten airsoft guns will also be supplied for training purposes," he told reporters after the JPJ Director-General Cup Shooting Competition at the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) shooting range in Gunong, here today.
Kelantan JPJ emerged as the overall champions of the shooting competition.
Arifin said the use of firearms, among others, is to ensure the safety JPJ officers while enforcing the law on the road.
JPJ enforcement officers had received threats especially from gangsters on the West Coast.
