The Kedah Anti-Smuggling Unit arrested 20 illegal immigrants at the Changlun bus stop near here early Monday, said its commander Abdul Latif Abdul Rahman.
He said the immigrants, comprising 12 Myanmar men, three Indonesian men and one Cambodian man and four women, all aged between 19 and 44, were believed to have been working in the Klang Valley and were waiting for a bus to take them to the border at Bukit Kayu Hitam to return to their countries of origin.
"Two of the Indonesians and two of the Cambodians were found to have expired temporary visit passes while the rest did not have any valid travel documents," he told reporters.
He also said that two Malaysians, aged 44 and 59, were arrested for trying to smuggle liquor and various types of firecrackers, worth over RM11,400, into the country on two occasions.
The first suspect was arrested at 3 pm in a bus at Km1.3 of the North-South Expressway heading to Changlun and the second, 30 minutes later at the same place, he added.
