Kedah government is strong, unaffected by political crisis in Perak - MB

ALOR SETAR:The position of the Kedah state government represented by a coalition of State Assemblymen (ADUN) from PAS, UMNO and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is not affected by the current political crisis in Perak.

Menteri Besar, Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor expressed full confidence in the loyalty shown by all the assemblymen of the coalition on his leadership.

According to him, his party does not have any problems with any party in Kedah, whether they are representing the government or the opposition represented by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang).

"(The situation in Perak) does not affect at all in the relationship of the parties in the (Kedah) state government.

“I am enjoying good relations with PPBM, UMNO and good with the opposition.

“I have listened to what they (the opposition) informed us. We will do whatever that is within our means and it does not affect the relationship of the parties in Kedah at all,” he said in a press conference after attending a special briefing session by the Kedah Regional Development Authority at its headquarters, here on Monday.

In a similar development, Muhammad Sanusi is confident that there will be no motion on the vote of confidence or no confidence against him in the next Kedah State Assembly (DUN) sitting.

However, he explained, he cannot stop any assemblyman from acting in such a way and withdraw support for him as the decision was not up to the ADUNs in Kedah, instead they merely follow the instructions of their respective parties at the Central level.

The Kedah State Legislative Assembly currently sees PAS having 15 seats, Bersatu (6) and Barisan Nasional/UMNO with 2 seats on the government side while the opposition is represented by 5 ADUNs from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Parti Amanah Negara (4) and DAP and Pejuang with two each.

On Sunday, PAS described the issue of forming a government in Perak as an isolated situation involving only the state.

Its vice-president, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah hoped that the issue in Perak would not expand to other states apart from influencing the political situation at the national level.
