The Kedah government will attend to the welfare of Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) students and staff in overcoming the problems faced by the state government-owned educational institution.
Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said the state government wished to solve the problems with no politics involved.
He said the state government was trying to solve the problems one by one, but he regretted that certain quarters (opposition) were creating stories that would only make the people at Kuin unhappy.
"The state government wants to look after the interests of all people in the state. But if there are Kuin students who are opposed to moving from (the main campus in) Kuala Ketil (to the old campus in Mergong), that is not our priority.
"They (Kuin students and staff) had previously forwarded a memorandum on various problems at the Mergong campus. They need not worry as we have provided enough lecture rooms and hostels there," he told reporters during a walkabout at the Ramadan bazaar at the Darul Aman Stadium grounds yesterday evening.
At the event, Mukhriz also distributed to the public and traders at the bazaar, about 800 packets of "bubur lambuk" (spicy porridge) contributed by the Kedah Islamic Foundation.
Mukhriz said previously, the problems at the Kuin Kuala Ketil campus included the absence of hostels for the students while the staff had to commute between Alor Setar and Kuala Ketil.
He said the state government would meet up with the students' representatives to explain to them the measures it was taking to solve Kuin's problems in stages.
"This will take a bit of time and we urge all parties concerned to be patient," he added.
On another note, Mukhriz said the state government planned to promote the Ramadan bazaar as a tourism product to attract more tourists to the state.
