The Kedah state government plans to hold briefing sessions in stages to explain on the Shia ideology which contradicts the teachings of members of the Sunnah Wal Jama'ah.
Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said the briefing sessions for the community were necessary as it was believed that the ideology was spreading in several areas such as Pendang, Sungai Petani and Jitra.
"Syiah is an ideology that is prohibited, thus, it is an offence to spread the ideology among the community.
"We will propose to enact a clear law at the State Legislative Assembly sitting so that action can be taken (against those spreading the ideology)," he said at a function at the Al-Muhammadi Mosque, Kampung Pauh, here last night.
Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
