Kelantan hit by floods besides T'ganu, Johor and S'gor
Floods started to hit Kelantan today following several days of rain, causing Sungai Golok flowing through the Tanah Merah and Rantau Panjang districts to overflow and inundate the surrounding areas, with 18 people evacuated.
According to the National Security Council portal, with Kelantan the latest to be affected by floods, the number of avacuees now stand at 430 nationwide.
The other states affected are Terengganu with 305 people moved to the evacuation centres, Selangor (91) and Johor (16).
In Kelantan, all the evacuees from four families in Kampung Tasek, Bukit Awang in Pasir Puteh were evacuated to Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Awang since midnight after flood waters that hit their houses rose to almost one metre.
In Terengganu, seven evacuation centres were opened in three districts, namely Setiu, Marang and Dungun. In Johor, the only evacuation centre opened so far is in Batu Pahat, while in Selangor, there are three in Kuala Selangor and Klang.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department's portal notes that water levels in Sungai Setiu at the Permaisuri Bridge, Sungai Besut at Kampung La and Sungai Berang at Kampung Menerong have exceeded the danger level.
In Kelantan, the water level of Sungai Golok flowing through Tanah Merah and Rantau Panjang has also risen above the danger level.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast intermittent rain, occasionally heavy, in Kelantan and Terengganu to continue until tomorrow and may cause floods in low-lying areas.
Among areas to be affected are Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Machang, Kota Baharu, Bachok and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan and Besut, Setiu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu.T
he department in a statement today said Pahang and Johor would experience intermittent rain, sometimes moderate, until Wednesday.
In Pahang, the areas to be affected are Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin while Mersing and Kota Tinggi in Johor are also on the alert list.
