Kelantan to table hudud bill in Parliament soon

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd. Amar Nik Abdullah said that they hope to table the private members bill at the Dewan Rakyat this June.

"We are planning for this year. We already have a rough draft. If we can do it in time for June, then June it is. If it is in December, then so be it... it hasn't been decided yet," he told reporters today.

He said this after chairing the first full meeting of the Technical Committee for the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment II Kelantan.

The Kelantan state exco meeting last week saw the approval of the completion of the private members bill to be tabled in Parliament soon in order to open the door for the implementation of hudud in the state by next year at the latest.

Kelantan Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Yakob, said that the decision by the state exco is in response to the statement by Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom, who said that the federal government is ready to support any state that wants to implement Islamic criminal law.

Jamil Khir said this in his motion with regards to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong's Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat recently.

Mohd. Amar did not name the PAS Member of Parliament who will be tabling the bill and said that it has not been decided yet by the state exco.
