Ketengah chairman, Datuk Razali Idris said the Visit Kenyir Year project was timely to assist tourism industry players who were badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to revive their business.
“Before this, Ketengah would usually hold Kenyir Festival for a month every year, but the Visit Kenyir Year 2021 would see improvements and special tour packages arranged according to the season and situation at the location.
"Ketengah has just completed a workshop with tour operators in Tasik Kenyir to identify the products for tourists including extreme sports, education, cycling, fishing competition and hiking Gunung Gagau as well as exploring several remote islands,” he said.
He told reporters after handing over appointment letters for board members of 16 companies in Ketengah Holding Sdn Bhd group here yesterday.
Among the activities during Visit Kenyir Year 2021 are releasing one million fish fries in January, Media Tasik Kenyir Exploration Tour, Kenyir Bird and Nature Quest, Gunung Gagau Adventure Exploration, Kenyir Snakehead Battle fishing competition as well as educational activities with Terengganu Education Department and selected institutions of higher learning.
Meanwhile, Ketengah general manager, Tengku Ahmad Nadzri Tengku Musa said all tourism activities were planned to ensure Terengganu continues to be a tourism destination even during the monsoon season.
“The focus on tourism shifted to Tasik Kenyir as many island resorts in Terengganu could not be visited due to safety, so we are planning various suitable activities for tourists all year-round.
“Similarly, the unique lifestyle of the Orang Asli village in Sungai Berua is also an attraction in Tasik Kenyir and we will also promote the natural beauty and the 1,001 flora and fauna found for tourism based on research and education,” he said.
