Khairuddin remanded six days
He was arrested by the police on Friday at his residence in Mont Kiara under Section 124C on charges of trying to overthrow the government.
Former UMNO Batu Kawan division deputy chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan who was arrested Friday has been remanded for six days to facilitate investigation.
This was confirmed by one of his lawyers, Stanley Augustin at the Dang Wangi police headquarters today.
“He has been remanded for six days till Thursday. The magistrate approved the remand, saying that is a need to investigate further,” he said when met outside the police headquarters.
He said the police had asked to extend the remand because they said the documents which Khairuddin had given to the Swiss and French authorities were false.
“My question is how can they say it is false if they have not seen the documents?," he questioned.
Apart from Augustin, five other lawyers Matthias Chang, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, Fahmi Abd Moin, Ahmad Bazlan Che Kassim and Ahmad Afiq Akmal are representing him.
He was arrested by the police on Friday at his residence in Mont Kiara under Section 124(C) of the Penal Code on charges of trying to overthrow the government.
Earlier, the New York Times had reported that Khairuddin was scheduled to meet agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday.
His lawyer told the paper in a phone interview that the appointment with the FBI was made with assistance from the US Embassy in Malaysia.
