The actions by Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan to choose foreign legal channels to put pressure on Malaysia on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue can be deemed as sabotaging the country, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He said the actions of the former vice-head of the Batu Kawan UMNO division was clearly seen as aimed at challenging the Malaysian legal system.
"It also tarnishes the credibility the local enforcement agencies and invites foreign intervention in the democratic system of this country.
"His actions is a form of sabotage that can affect the economic stability and sovereignty of this country," he said in a statement late tonight.
Khalid also said police would carry out detailed investigations on allegations that the information supplied by Khairuddin to the foreign agencies concerned, were false.
The statement was issued in response to a media statement by Pokok Sena Member of Parliament Datuk Mahfuz Omar today titled "Mengutuk Tindakan Perdana Menteri Najib Mempergunakan Pasukan Police Untuk Menangkap Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan (Condemning Prime Minister (Datuk Seri) Najib (Tun Razak) for using the police force to arrest Datuk (Seri) Khairuddin Abu Hassan) Khalid also drew attention to the fact that Khairuddin had lodged police reports on the 1MDB issue, and as such, should give room to the local enforcement agencies to carry out the investigations.
However, he said, Khairuddin "still chose to resort to foreign enforcement agencies, specifically in Britain, Hong Kong, France and the United States to apply international pressure on Malaysia."
Police on Saturday had obtained a six-day remand order against Khairuddin to investigate him under Section 124C of the Penal Code for allegedly carrying out activities that were detrimental to parliammentary democracy.
The media yesterday had reported that Khairuddin was arrested at his home in Mont Kiara at about 7.30 pm on Friday.
His arrest is believed to be linked to investigations regarding 1Malaysia Development Berhad, a strategic investment fund which has been a subject of controversy.
