Police have stopped investigation into a report made by UMNO Youth Vice Chief Khairul Azwan Harun against three high profile individuals whom he claimed were conspiring to topple the Prime Minister and the government.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the move was taken because early investigation shows Khairul Azwan, also known as Azwan Bro, has made the report based on assumptions.
On July 26, Khairul Azwan claimed to have in his possession evidence relating to the involvement of former Bank Negara Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed and former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail in a plot to overthrow the Malaysian government and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He also accused them, in a report lodged at the Dang Wangi Police Station, of deliberately falsifying, distorting and disseminating confidential information to agencies in the United States.
"We have recorded his statement and we found Khairul Azwan made the report based on assumptions. He could not submit any evidence to support what is stated in the police report," said Khalid.
Khairul Azwan had previously said the report was made to defend Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the government.
Meanwhile, UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has also denied any links of the police report to the party wing and stressed that it was made under Khairul Azwan's personal capacity.
